CORNWALL

Bowji
Residential Project

We were commissioned by a private client to design a new build house for them and their family down in Cornwall. The house sits on an empty plot in the village of Trebetherick and has fantastic views out across the neighbouring fields and easy access to the beautiful Daymer Bay beach.

Connections to the Landscape

The rational and rhythmic glazed openings march around the house and offer connections to the garden and wider landscape. The decision was taken to use natural cedar cladding hung in a vertical orientation to give the building a contemporary aesthetic and give the single storey house some verticality.

Flowing Spaces

The floor plan was developed around a rigorous grid that helps bring order to the spaces and the elevations. An integrated covered entrance porch gives shelter and protection to the front door, which then leads to a hallway with utility room and coat cupboard. A generous open-plan living, dining and kitchen area is at the heart of the house and contains a fire place for a wood burning stove.
